Assessment

Coaching is a discovery process and an action process.  An optimal approach to coaching would have the coachee come to know himself better, accept himself as he is, and then develop an action plan that creates himself by making an investment in skill leverage and/or development.  Through deliberate focus on improving skills, executives can better give of themselves to improve personal and organizational performance.

Overview of Assessment Tools

Neuroscience has given us a “Theory of Change” model in regard to executive performance.
Specifically, it has taught us that:

  • Overall individual performance is a function of one’s behavior.

  • Observable Behavior is driven by our knowledge, skills, experience, emotions, attitudes and personality traits.

  • Through a process called “deliberate practice” new habits can be developed that result in targeted new behaviors.  Deliberate practice can focus on leveraging existing strengths and/ or developing opportunity areas.

Individual performance is driven by a number of components as shown in the following graphic:

Axiology is defined as  "The branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of value and the types of value, as in morals, aesthetics, religion, and metaphysics."
– Webster's New World Dictionary, 2nd Edition

There are vast differences in people.  They do not look alike or sound alike.
Nor do they think alike.  Axiology is the study of how people think. Specifically, axiologists study how people assign value to different things. Perceptions, decisions, and actions are determined by this internal valuing system.  This is how individuals compare things and how those value assignments either represent or distort reality.

This assessment tool measures the quality of a “judgment” based on a universal “hierarchy of value.”  The results of the assessment are then reported against 36 value dimensions.  This provides the basis from which the client can identify and leverage strengths, and learn to identify what triggers weaknesses.

People often confuse value with values. Values are specific items that people
stand for, believe in, or deem important. To value is to think, to assign meaning and richness of properties to reality.
